On December 12, 2018, Archbishop Gregory Aymond (our Metropolitan Archbishop) will be the celebrant at our closing Mass for our Centennial Year with our Bishop Douglas Deshotel as the homilist.
All Catholics throughout our whole diocese are invited and truly encouraged to join us for this historical event to honor the work God has done to us and through us and our response to Him in this past Century of Love. We use this time to look at our past and present, our strengths and weaknesses, our triumphs and our failures so that we might focus on where God now hopes to lead us. God has loved us into this good Diocese of Lafayette throughout these 100 years for a purpose and hope.
Lord we offer you our hearts, minds and souls. Use us according to your Most Holy Will.
The Mass will begin at 6 p.m. at the Cajundome Convention Center. There is no greater manner to enjoy and ask for God’s Presence, Blessing and Graces as in the Mass. As a Diocese, let us come together for this Holy and Historical Mass. Before and after the Mass, there will be a walk through Historical Exhibit and a video of historical sites and events. After the Mass, all are invited to come together and enjoy a reception. We are all one people of God, let us cherish and enjoy this time of history together. This Mass will incorporate our cultures, our music, our different races and nations and our different organizations which comprise and express our faith.
But now, O Lord, You are our Father, we are the clay and You, our Potter, we are all the work of Your Hand. (Isaiah 64:8)
Our history, our present and our Future - many have gone before us but we are the present who open the door to the future by our faith. Bishop Deshotel invites all of us to come together at this special time of grace.
