Relief and recovery efforts are now underway to care for those impacted by the devastating winds and storm surge of Hurricanes Laura and Delta within the Diocese of Lafayette. Catholic Charities of Acadiana (CCA) is the official responding disaster agency of the Diocese of Lafayette for both every day disasters and catastrophic weather events like these. CCA is also coordinating relief efforts with Sister Miriam Maclean and Catholic Charities in Lake Charles, assisting them in their response to those who are in need.
Catholic Charities of Acadiana is assessing damage from Hurricanes Laura and Delta, and is working in coordination with local disaster response partners from Acadiana Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (AVOAD). Those with storm damage within the Diocese of Lafayette should text the word DISASTER to 797979 for damage assessment and response.

Time and again, the Diocese of Lafayette has played a key role in helping people and communities recover and rebuild after a natural or manmade disaster. Under the leadership of Catholic Charities of Acadiana, the Diocese offers financial support to enable their immediate response and their long-term recovery efforts. In 2016, the Diocese of Lafayette committed more than $1 million to fund recovery efforts from the devastating floods of that year. In 2019, CCA led recovery efforts in Evangeline Parish after devastation from tornadoes. In 2020, CCA is responding to both Hurricanes Laura and Delta, and to the financial hardships from COVID 19.
