Violence hits all communities, incomes and age groups. It also tests our faith. We have a responsibility to respond. Acadiana has had its share of violence, domestic abuse, serial killings, stabbings, and the list goes on.
This past May 2024, Bishop Deshotel, the Office of Justice & Peace, and Marriage & Family Life offered an annual Mass for Survivors of Violence Mass at the Immaculata Chapel. Individuals were able to submit a loved ones names to be included on a candle displayed near the altar as well as bring a personal picture frame to place near the candle. After Mass, guests were invited to bring home the candle along with the framed photo to continue to pray for their loved one. A reception was held after Mass.
On October 4, 2025, we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of honoring those affected by violence. The Mass will be held at the Immaculata Chapel (1408 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501) at 10:00am with a light reception to follow.
